Gordonsville Mine Closure

Pasminco announced today that the Gordonsville mine in Tennessee, US, was closed on Friday 9 May 2003.

The mine`s closure had been foreshadowed in December 2002 as part of the restructure strategy for Pasminco. The Gordonsville mine had supplied concentrates to the Clarksville refinery but low ore grades and unsatisfactory investment returns had resulted in the closure decision. The Clarksville refinery has sourced alternative concentrate supplies to accommodate the mine closure.

The Clinch Valley mine also in Tennessee is expected to continue operating for a further 12 months, while remaining ore is mined out.
