Refinery Column Temporarily Closed At Cockle Creek
Pasminco announced today that it had temporarily closed a refinery column at its Cockle Creek smelter following the discovery of a leakage of zinc from the lower section of the column on Sunday.
ISF zinc production is not affected, but refinery output will be limited to approximately 60% of refined metal capacity, and repairs are expected to be completed on the column in about six weeks.
Production of refined zinc will be impacted during this period, with a shortfall of between 5,000 - 6,000 tonnes, which will be recovered in the coming months following recommissioning of the column.
Alternative arrangements have been made to ensure customers receive a continuous supply of metal while repairs are completed.
