Pasminco Employee Fatally Injured In The United States
An employee at the Clarksville Zinc Pant in Tennessee died on Monday as a result of injuries sustained in a barge accident on 4 January 2002.
The employee was one of two men seriously injured while they were working at the Concentrate Barge Unloading Station. Early indications are that the sliding barge covers moved unexpectedly, resulting in the two employees being thrown onto the empty floor of the barge – a fall of more than five metres.
After receiving emergency treatment at the site, the men were transported to medical facilities in Nashville. The second employee remains in a serious, but stable condition.
Pasminco has commenced an investigation into the incident in conjunction with relevant Tennessee state authorities.
Pasminco Chief Executive Officer Greig Gailey said this was a terrible tragedy that would impact on people throughout Pasminco.
“I know I speak for everyone in the company when I say that our deepest sympathy lies with the family, friends and colleagues immediately affected. It remains vital that every employee remain focused on safety matters to eliminate work place risks to ensure they can return home to family and friends at the end of every day.”
